CSEC Con 2022
On the 24rd of September 2022, the UTS Cyber Security society hosted their first very own conference based in Sydney. I’ve been part of the Cyber Security society at UTS since 2020, although I did not take part in helping to organise the event being there in support of such a well organised event by fellow peers was an amazing experience.
- It was great to see my peers Max Caminer with his talk on “Introduction to Capture The Flag” (CTF). In summary he spoke about how important CTF’s were to his journey, helping him learn about cyber security and hacking in general.
- Another was Ian Szklinski’s talk on “Incident Response: A practical beginners guide to phishing”. His talk was a fantastic approach to breaking down the experience of working as a Cyber Security Analyst, specifically focusing on response to Incidents. Walking through PICERL the framework to follow during an incident, he even went through a demo of an incident triage where I discovered a new tool I used regularly called wheregoes.com, used to see if a URL makes any strange redirects.
I strongly recommend any students who attend UTS, or any individuals who are interested in Cyber Security to join the society UTS Cyber Security Society it truly is valuable. I believe without this society and its members I may not have started a career in Cyber Security.
